The Regional Water Efficiency Program has updated its online database which includes over 1,800 plants classified by plant type, botanical name, common name and water use. It includes garden tours for design ideas, a garden gallery to search for water-efficient plants that meet your needs, water conservation tips and landscape design and maintenance. Take the Blue Thumb Pledge

Elk Grove Water District, the Regional Water Authority and other local water providers are sponsoring a Blue Thumb pledge drive to reward people who commit to use water efficiently. Did you know that 30% of landscape irrigation is lost due to overwatering or evaporation? A free landscape irrigation audit can help you water your yard efficiently and effectively! When is an Audit a Good Thing?

The Elk Grove Water District offers free landscape irrigation audits and free water surveys for your home! A certified landscape irrigation auditor can inspect your irrigation system and prepare a complete report with recommendations of how to make your system efficient and effective. A water survey helps you save water by detecting leaks in faucets, toilets and showers. Call Ellen Carlson, 685-3556, to schedule your appointment.

Rebates For Clothes Washers And Toilets

Due to overwhelming response, Elk Grove Water District has exhausted its rebate funds for this year. If you are interested in getting a toilet, clothes washer or other water conserving appliance rebate, please contact Ellen Carlson at 685-3556 for more information.

Mulching Conserves Moisture

Use a mulch wherever possible. A good mulch conserves water by significantly reducing moisture evaporation from the soil. Mulch also reduces weed populations, prevents soil compaction and keeps soil temperatures more moderate.

Get Free Mulch!

EGWD has partnered with SMUD and the Sacramento Tree Foundation to offer FREE mulch! Mulch is available at our office at 9257 Elk Grove Blvd. on a first come, first serve basis, Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 4 PM.
